1030 PM CT Oklahoma Weather Update: Major Cold Front Racing South Through Oklahoma (1/16/2012)

A very strong cold front over far northern Oklahoma this evening, is beginning to accelerate southward. The front was located near a Woodward to Ponca City line at 10 PM. To the north of the front temperatures were in the 30s and 40s with north winds of 10 to 20 mph. Meanwhile, mild temperatures prevailed south of the boundary with readings still in the 50s and 60s at 10 PM. The front will push southward into central Oklahoma between midnight and 2 am then continue southward through southern Oklahoma and into North Texas by sunrise Tuesday. Much cooler air will overspread the region in the wake of the front with lows Tuesday morning ranging from the 20s in northern Oklahoma to the low 40s in southeast Oklahoma. In addition, brisk north winds will add to the chill. A few light showers will be possible this evening, mainly over parts of central and northern Oklahoma. Any precipitation is expected to be light and brief. High temperatures on Tuesday will range from the mid 30s to upper 40s.
