My First Nighttime Tornado Near Afton, OK Rated EF1 (4-3-2015)


Last night, I witnessed my first nighttime tornado near Afton, OK around 10:05 PM CT. Sure, I’ve seen and witnessed tornadoes in my time. This was my first nighttime tornado. Check out this information statement from NWS Tulsa.

SUMMARY: A TORNADO DEVELOPED FROM A SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORM NORTH OF I-44 IN EAST CENTRAL CRAIG COUNTY TO THE NORTHEAST OF VINITA. THE FIRST DAMAGE NOTED OCCURRED TO BARNS AND TREES AT THE S 440 ROAD. THE TORNADO MOVED EAST SOUTHEAST SNAPPING AND UPROOTING TREES AND DAMAGING BARNS AND OUTBUILDING ALONG THE E 220 ROAD…S 440 ROAD…AND E 230 ROAD BEFORE CROSSING I-44…WHERE IT BLEW OVER TWO TRACTOR TRAILERS RESULING IN AN INJURY TO ONE OF THE DRIVERS. THE TORNADO MOVED EAST THROUGH OPEN COUNTRY AS IT MOVED INTO SOUTHWESTERN OTTAWA COUNTY THEN CROSSED HIGHWAY 60 ABOUT A MILE SOUTHWEST OF AFTON. ROUND HAY BALES WERE BLOWN ACROSS A FIELD AND LIMBS WERE SNAPPED FROM TREES. THE TORNADO DESTROYED BARNS AND OUTBUILDINGS…DAMAGED SEVERAL HOMES…AND SNAPPED OR UPROOTED NUMEROUS TREES AS IT CROSSED THE S 510 AND S 520 ROADS. THE TORNADO MOVED INTO NORTHERN DELAWARE COUNTY NEAR THE S 520 ROAD. TREES WERE SNAPPED OR UPROOTED…BARNS AND OUTBUILDINGS WERE DAMAGED…AND HOMES WERE DAMAGED AS IT APPROACHED THE NORTH END OF GRAND LAKE FROM THE WEST NORTHWEST. IT DESTROYED A PRIVATE BOAT DOCK THE LAKE THEN MOVED THROUGH A COMMUNITY OF HOUSES TO THE EAST OF THE LAKE…RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO HOMES AND TREES.
