A winter storm will continue to strengthen today as it moves across North Texas and into southern Arkansas. Shortly before 8 am, temperatures ranged from upper teens across northwest Oklahoma to the mid and upper 30s across south central and southeast Oklahoma. Strong gusty north winds were making the air feel much colder.
Through 10 am, an area of mainly rain will move across parts of south central and southeast Oklahoma. Temperatures will continue to cool and areas north of Sulphur, Ada and Holdenville will see some additional ice accumulation on trees and powerlines. Farther north, freezing rain in and around Oklahoma City should gradually transition to more sleet by mid-morning. An additional thin glaze of ice is likely.
Areas north and west of Enid, Watonga and Hobart should see mainly snow. Precipitation intensity and coverage is expect to increase during the morning hours. Numerous accidents continue to be reported in and around Oklahoma City, so avoid travel if possible.
