3:30PM CST Oklahoma Weather Update (12/15/2012)

An area of rain will continue to move northeast across southeastern Oklahoma this afternoon. The rain will mainly be southeast of a line from Wetumka to Ardmore to Marietta. The heaviest showers will produce rainfall of around one-quarter of an inch per hour, although most areas will receive much less.

A line of thunderstorms has formed this afternoon across the western Texas Panhandle and West Texas and is moving east-northeast. These storms will move into the Arnett, Cheyenne, Hollis (OK); Quanah, Crowell, Knox City (TX) areas after 5 PM.

There will be a brief period of time early this evening when isolated damaging wind gusts of 55 to 65 mph will be possible across far western sections of Oklahoma and North Texas, therefore a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued.

These showers and thunderstorms will continue to move across Oklahoma and North Texas through the evening  although the chance of severe weather will decrease as instability decreases through the evening.
