Strong northerly winds will spread over the region this morning and afternoon as a cold front passes quickly over Oklahoma and western North Texas. At 630 am the front extended from south of Amarillo, Texas to near Erick, Foss Lake, Fairview and Cherokee. Northwest to north winds were seen behind the front gusting to around 40 mph.
A quick and steady southeast progression of the front is expected. By 9 am the front is forecast to extend from around Crowell Texas to just west of Lawton and Oklahoma City to Medford. The front should move through Wichita Falls, Oklahoma City and Stillwater by noon.
If you have outdoor activities planned, be prepared for the change in wind direction and increased wind speed after the front passes. The winds will gust over 40 mph at many locations. Winds this strong may make traveling difficult for light-weight and high-profile vehicles.
