2 PM CDT Oklahoma Severe Weather Update: Storms to Develop After 4 PM (5/6/2012)

The afternoon will continue hot and hazy over much of Oklahoma and western North Texas. Temperatures were in the upper 80s and low 90s, except behind a cold front. The front had reached Sayre to Woodward to Camp Houston in western Oklahoma. Strong thunderstorms are forecast to develop on the front in southern Kansas and then build toward northern Oklahoma this evening.

Other thunderstorms are possible this afternoon along a surface trough. The trough was easily seen in surface observations and radar data, extending from Archer City and Wichita Falls Texas, to Lawton, Weatherford, and Fairview Oklahoma. Additional heating will be required to break the cap…but isolated strong storms are possible after 4 PM.
