5 PM CDT Oklahoma Severe Weather Update (3/18/2012)

Storms continue to develop across West Texas ahead of a stationary dryline. These storms will continue to strengthen and move to the northeast at 40 to 45 mph. At 430 PM, two severe storms were located near Crowell in western North Texas, and west of Hollis in southwest Oklahoma. Additional severe thunderstorms will be possible through this evening as storms continue to fire in the vicinity of the dryline and move eastward. The strongest storms will be capable of producing large damaging hail to the size of baseballs and destructive straight line winds of up to 65 to 70 mph. Additional storms will form this evening, spreading into the remainder of western Oklahoma and western North Texas through 8 PM.
