Strong, gusty winds will continue across much of Oklahoma and western North Texas today. This will occur as an area of surface low pressure moves east across Kansas today. Winds will gradually shift from south to west across the area during the early and mid afternoon hours before shifting to the north and northwest by later this afternoon and evening. The strong west winds, gusting over 50 mph at times, will bring areas of blowing dust to portions of southwest Oklahoma and western North Texas this afternoon. This will likely reduce visibility across these areas making for dangerous driving conditions. The strongest winds are expected to occur across portions of western and northwestern Oklahoma this afternoon in the wake of a cold front. Northwest winds of 25 to 40 mph with gusts approaching 60 mph will be likely for a few hours this afternoon. This will make for treacherous driving conditions on area roadways and will also blow lightweight objects around. The winds are expected to diminish around sunset.
