615 PM CT Oklahoma Weather Update (12/31/2011)

Shortly after 6 PM, a fast moving cold front was located along a line from Crowell, Texas to Grandfield, Oklahoma to Rush Springs to Shawnee and Chandler. The front was moving south around 40 mph. Very strong winds were noted behind the front in western Oklahoma with some gusts exceeding 55 mph including a 45 mph estimated wind gust by myself at 515 PM CT in downtown Guthrie.

By 8 PM, the front is expected to be located along a Holdenville and Ardmore line. Wind speeds and gusts behind the front will gradually decrease during the evening hours. Temperatures immediately behind the front are not exceptionally cool as cooler weather is lagging the front by several hours. Most areas by midnight will see temperatures in the mid 30s to mid 40s with breezy north winds adding a chill to the air.
