12 Noon CT Oklahoma Weather Update (12/9/2011)

Today a modified Arctic air mass was moving into Oklahoma and Texas. The cold front along the leading edge had reached southeast Oklahoma, extending from Madill to McAlester around noon. Low pressure along the front in northern Texas, will maintain an area of low clouds across southern Oklahoma. The clouds will hold temperatures in the low 40s this afternoon, and a few sprinkles may occur around Ardmore, Ada, Durant and Atoka.

Another region of low cloud cover was seen across northern and western Oklahoma, and was edging into the Oklahoma City area. Locations north of a line from Stillwater to Bethany to Chickasha will see mostly cloud skies today, while locations south of that line will see mostly sunny skies. In western Oklahoma, cloud cover will advance toward Hobart, Mangum and Altus.

Regardless of the amount of sunshine, it will be a cold day, as north winds bring modified Arctic air into the region. Highs will range from the middle 30s in northern Oklahoma to around 40 in central Oklahoma to the middle 40s elsewhere.
