Oklahoma City to See 1-3 Inches of Snow on Monday (12/3/2011)

ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL POSSIBLE SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING …

FOLLOWING RAINY WEATHER TODAY, COLDER AIR WILL FILTER INTO OKLAHOMA AND WESTERN NORTH TEXAS TONIGHT AND SUNDAY. MEANWHILE, ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM OVER THE SOUTHWESTERN UNITED STATES WILL BEGIN TO MOVE EAST. SNOW MAY BEGIN TO FALL ACROSS PARTS OF SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA AND WESTERN NORTH TEXAS SUNDAY EVENING. SNOW IS EXPECTED TO SPREAD FROM WEST TO EAST ACROSS THE REGION LATE SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY MORNING.

AT THIS TIME , THE BEST OPPORTUNITY FOR ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL APPEARS TO EXTEND FROM NEAR HOLLIS, VERNON AND WICHITA FALLS AREAS NORTHEAST TOWARD HOBART, LAWTON, DUNCAN, OKLAHOMA CITY AND STILLWATER. WIDESPREAD LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS LESS THAN TWO INCHES ARE EXPECTED AND THESE ACCUMULATIONS WOULD BE MAINLY CONFINED TO GRASSY SURFACES, CARS, AND TREES.

FARTHER NORTH ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN LESS THAN AN INCH ON MONDAY WITH A RAIN SNOW MIX POSSIBLE ACROSS FAR SOUTHERN AND SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA. WARM GROUND TEMPERATURES WILL START THE MELTING IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SNOW ENDS AND EXPECTED SUNSHINE ON TUESDAY WILL KEEP ANY ACCUMULATIONS SHORT-LIVED.

ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE OUT OF THE SOUTHWEST UNITED STATES LATE MONDAY WHICH MAY PRODUCE AN ADDITIONAL BAND OF SNOW ACROSS FAR NORTHWEST OKLAHOMA MONDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY TUESDAY. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO AN INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THIS ACTIVITY FROM NEAR ARNETT AND WOODWARD NORTH TO BUFFALO AND ALVA.

RESIDENTS AND THOSE TRAVELING ACROSS OKLAHOMA AND WESTERN NORTH TEXAS SHOULD KEEP INFORMED OF THE LATEST FORECASTS.
