445 PM CT Oklahoma Weather Update (10/22/2011)

A small area of thunderstorms will continue to develop across north central Oklahoma through 6 PM. The strongest of these storms will be capable producing large hail and wind gusts to near 60 mph. Locations from near Medford east to Blackwell and Ponca City will likely be impacted by these storms. Cloud-to-ground lightning and very heavy rainfall will also accompany these storms as they move toward the east at 15 mph. Additional shower and thunderstorm development is likely to occur across northern into central Oklahoma between 5 and 7 PM as an upper level disturbance moves out of the central rockies into the Southern Plains this evening. The storms will then move southeast during the evening…and may back-build to near Lawton and Henrietta Texas. Some of the storms are expected to be severe…so you are encouraged to monitor weather information…especially if you are planning to travel or spend time outdoors.
