Heat Advisory for Most of Central and Western Oklahoma Through 9 PM CT Saturday (8/17/2011)

.. Heat advisory in effect from 7 am Thursday to 9 PM CDT Saturday…

… Return to very hot weather weather for the next few days…

* Temperature: Peaking at 103 to 109 degrees in the afternoon. Remaining in the 80s and low 90s well into the night. Lows 75 to 83.

* Heat index: 105 to 110 degrees in the afternoon.

* Impacts: Heat will once again place a significant stress on people and pets. Drinking water and seeking air conditioned environments are essential steps to staying healthy.

* Precautionary/preparedness actions: Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9-1-1.
