345 PM CT Oklahoma Weather Update (6/9/2011)

Strong to severe thunderstorms will likely develop by 5 PM over parts of western and northern Oklahoma. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for these areas until 10 PM. Satellite images at 340 PM indicated a few cumulus clouds developing over northwestern Oklahoma… near a slow-moving front stretching from near Arnett… to Freedom… to the state line north of Alva. Further heating of the surface air will result in increasing instability… and a greater likelihood of thunderstorm initiation late this afternoon in these areas. Overall atmospheric conditions are similar to yesterday… and will support a few organized severe thunderstorms through early evening. Damaging downburst winds will be the main concern. Large hail also will be possible.
