8:30 PM CT Oklahoma Weather Update (6/3/2011)

Thunderstorms were again limited to the High Plains of eastern New Mexico and the western Oklahoma and Texas panhandles this evening. Elsewhere…the weather remained hot and dry with breezy south winds. An upper level trough will remain west and north of the region…while an upper level ridge maintains dry weather through the weekend. At mid evening temperatures were mainly in the low 90s…and will fall to the low to mid 80s by 10 PM. Wind gusts will start to decrease…but sustained winds from the south to southeast will average 10 to 20 mph throughout the region. With very low humidity in western areas…a few fires were burning this evening. One fire near Albany Texas may spread the smell of smoke northward toward Benjamin…Crowell…Vernon…and maybe as far north as Altus.
