615 PM Oklahoma Weather Update (5/29/2011)

Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will continue this afternoon and early evening along and east of the dryline. At 6 PM…the dryline extended from just west of Dodge City Kansas south to near Beaver Oklahoma…south into the Texas
Panhandle…toward Lubbock.

Strong to severe storms will likely affect areas near and west of a line from Arnett north to Buffalo through 7 PM. These storms will be capable of damaging straight-line wind gusts in excess of 65 mph. Farther east…a strong capping inversion is expected to prevent storms from developing. Winds will remain strong through this evening…especially over the western half of Oklahoma and western North Texas. Thunderstorms chances will diminish later this evening with the loss of daytime heating.
