Oklahoma Weather Update as of 515 PM CT (5/20/2011)

An area of showers and thunderstorms will move northeast across portions of south central and southeast Oklahoma from North Texas through 6 PM. Most of the area will receive light to moderate rain. However… very heavy rain will be possible with any of the thunderstorms. This area of activity will gradually shift to the east over the next few hours. Elsewhere…. a dryline extending from near Alva and Watonga… to near Fort Cobb and Lawton Oklahoma… to near Wichita Falls Texas could provide a focus for a few thunderstorms… with the best chance in northwest Oklahoma. However… widespread cloud cover earlier in the day has limited the redevelopment of instability in this area… there is a chance that enough instability may be present late this afternoon and early this evening for a few thunderstorms to develop across portions of western Oklahoma. A few strong storms will be likely and even an isolated severe storm is possible.
