.PRELIMINARY STORM DAMAGE ASSESSMENT TEAM FINDINGS…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOBILE HAS STARTED THE PROCESS OF
SURVEYING THE MULTIPLE AREAS OF DAMAGE PRODUCED BY THE SEVERE STORMS
OF FRIDAY APRIL 15TH. HERE ARE SOME PRELIMINARY FINDINGS FROM THE
SURVEYS COMPLETED TODAY.

&&

* EVENT LOCATION: LEAKESVILLE, MISSISSIPPI
* STORM CLASSIFICATION: AT LEAST EF-3 INTENSITY TORNADO
* MAXIMUM WIDTH: 250 YARDS
* FATALITIES: 1
* NOTES: DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE IN THE LEAKESVILLE AREA, THE
SURVEY TEAM WAS NOT ABLE TO ASSESS THE ENTIRE TRACK OF THE TORNADO.
ADDITIONAL SURVEYS WILL BE NEEDED TO FINALIZE BOTH THE INTENSITY AND
THE PATH LENGTH.

&&

*EVENT LOCATION: VINEGAR BEND/DEER PARK, ALABAMA (SW WASHINGTON
COUNTY)
* STORM CLASSIFICATION: EF-3 INTENSITY TORNADO
* MAXIMUM WIDTH: 200 YARDS
* FATALITIES: 3
* INJURIES: 3
* NOTES: THIS TORNADO IS FROM THE SAME PARENT SUPERCELL THAT SPAWNED
THE LEAKESVILLE TORNADO. ADDITIONAL SURVEYS WILL BE CONDUCTED TO
DETERMINE IF IT IS ONE TORNADO WITH A CONTINUOUS TRACK FROM
LEAKESVILLE INTO WASHINGTON COUNTY OR SEPARATE TORNADOES.

&&

* EVENT LOCATION: CHOCTAW COUNTY ALABAMA
* STORM CLASSIFICATION: EF-2 INTENSITY TORNADO
* MAXIMUM WIDTH: 500 YARDS
* NOTES: MULTIPLE TORNADO TRACKS ARE EVIDENT ACROSS CHOCTAW COUNTY,
SOME OF WHICH ARE OVER THE SAME AREAS. THIS IS MAKING IT DIFFICULT
TO DETERMINE INDIVIDUAL TRACKS. THE SURVEY TEAM HAS IDENTIFIED EF-2
INTENSITY DAMAGE IN THE AREA BETWEEN RED SPRINGS AND BUTLER.
ADDITIONAL SURVEYS WILL BE NEEDED TO FINALIZE BOTH THE INTENSITY OF
THE TORNADOES AND TO BETTER IDENTIFY THE INDIVIDUAL TORNADO TRACKS
AND THEIR RESPECTIVE PATH LENGTHS.

&&

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOBILE WILL BE CONDUCTING ADDITIONAL
SURVEYS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS TO FINALIZE THE INFORMATION ON
THE ABOVE TORNADOES AND TO SURVEY OTHER AREAS IMPACTED BY FRIDAY`S
SEVERE WEATHER. MORE DETAILED INFORMATION OF THE DAMAGE WILL BE
PROVIDED ONCE THE SURVEYS ARE FINALIZED
