Oklahoma City Under Wind Advisories; High Wind Warnings in Western Oklahoma


So far this morning, most areas around Oklahoma City have seen winds of 25-40 miles per hour sustained, gusts over 50 common. A 55 mph wind gust was reported in the last hour in eastern Oklahoma City. Wind advisories are in effect east of US-81 with high wind warnings west of US-81. I have included the text products for both here. The first is the wind advisory for Oklahoma City & US-81 east, the second the high wind warning that includes Woodward, Elk City, & Altus,

Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening.

A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening formuch of central Oklahoma and north central Texas.

* Winds: northwest winds increasing to 25 to 35 mph by late morningand persisting throughout the day.
* Gusts: gusts up to 50 mph possible.
* Impacts: small unsecured objects such as lawn furniture and trash cans may be blown away. Driving will be difficult due to
crosswinds. The strong winds will also likely adversely affect any fire fighting efforts.

Precautionary/preparedness actions: Be careful if you have to travel or if you are working or playing
outside.

High wind warning text for western Oklahoma: High Wind Warning remains in effect until 8 PM CDT this
evening…

A High Wind Warning remains in effect until 8 PM CDT thisevening for most of western Oklahoma and parts of western North Texas.

* Winds: northwest winds 30 to 40 mph persisting throughout theday.
* Gusts: damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph possible.
* Impacts: small unsecured objects such as lawn furniture and trash cans may be blown away. Driving will be very difficult
and hazardous for high profile vehicles. Strong gusts may cause damage to rooftops and outbuildings… and will be
hazardous to those working outdoors. The strong winds will also likely adversely affect fire fighting efforts.

Precautionary/preparedness actions: Winds this strong can blow lightweight objects around… make it difficult to keep your vehicle on the road and create areas of blowing dust.
